This is an invitation to all SRA Members. Work for Technovanza 2009 and Robocon 2009 has begun. We welcome all members interested in working for the following events to drop by to MLR 11 before 4th January 2009. 1. Autoport 2.0 - Technovanza ‘08 helped us get a glimpse of a futuristic Mumbai Port. The importance of keeping our ports au courant was stressed by the usage of efficient technology. Every part of a port can run like a well lubricated part of a huge machine adn can radically ebb the wastage of time and capacity handling can surge. Autoport 2.0 will be the next step. Gesture recognition can be well introduced in modern day computers to play 3-D games. Virtual Reality is not far away from our doorsteps. Simple inertial navigation sensor like accelerometer can be utilized in getting Dynamic or Static acceleration profile of movement to move cursor of mouse or Gyroscope to even rotate 3-D object. We propose a technique on same principle to convert acceleration profile of accelerometer into wireless interactivity. Only limitation will be in movements that cause little acceleration which puts upper limit on sensitivity of sensor. (In mill volts per g, g= 9.8m/s2) The project involves non tactile interaction with a computer screen. Basically the mouse pointer is expected to react to and manipulate screen content as per hand gestures. This project is modeled on the lines of the MINORITY REPORT (the movie) screen. All participants are encouraged to provide their views on the numerous topics which can be included in the field of robotics. Topics can be as simple a step by step guide to building your own robot, to a detailed discussion on the differences between various microcontrollers required. keeping in mind the essence of an Un conference, no registrations are required and participants are free to drop in and leave any time they wish. Each speaker though will be allotted a time slot owing to time constraints, however the exact duration of each talk will be determined by the amount of interest that particular subject might generate, amongst the participants. Contact: Jaimeen Kapadia : jaimeen [at] vjti [dot] info Please check out the Technovanza 2009 website for more details on Technovanza. Also, we expect maximum participation from our members in events such as Roll of Die, Nautilus, F1 and Pyro. There are a lot of challenges worth taking part in at Techfest 2009 at IIT B as well, so go have a look at that as well. We are taking part in Robowars at Techfest, so if destruction is what you like, we'd like to know you. The institute effort for Robo con is expected to begin soon. We are looking for a dedicated team of ten members from outside the senate, from whom we shall be selecting the next senate. So gain as much experience as possible and be a part of the great experience called Rob ocon! |
